1. Admissions & Academics

1.1
Eligibility

Joy to the World’s school year starts in September and finishes in July. Your child’s class placement is based on your child's age as of September 1st. Please check the chart for your child’s class placement.

1.2
Grace period

Joy to the World allows a grace period of 30 days. Children born in September (September 1 - 30) may be considered for advancement. Placement will be decided based on input from parents, teachers recommendations, academic level, behavior, class availability and class composition.

1.3
Joy Tots Enrollment and Advancement

You can enroll your child into Joy Tots program from the age of 18 months old. Occasionally we will enroll children when they are younger than 18 months, based on beavailability and the child’s development. We accept enrollments throughout the school year anytime that seats are available. A Joy Tots student will be eligible to advance to the Pre-Kindergarten class at the beginning of the following term after the child becomes 2 years old if a seat is available.*Joy Tots Class is only open at the schools discretion.

1.4
Day selection

All Kindergarten classes (K1, K2, K3) are 5 day-a-week, full-time programs. In Joy Tots and Pre-Kindergarten we accept 2-day (Tuesday/Thursday), 3 day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) and 5 day-a-week enrollments. We do accept 4 day and non-standard schedules if requested by the parent, depending on class availability.

1.5
English level

To enroll in Joy Tots and Pre-Kindergarten no English language ability is required. For the Kindergarten classes (K1, K2, and K3) some basic English ability is required. The school may conduct an assessment to check the English language level of the child at the school’s discretion. It is possible that the school may request for the child to seek tutorial support classes, in order to improve their English language level so that they can enroll.

1.6
Kinder Class Immersion Program

This program is open to members, to alumni of Joy to the World, and to non-members who have a strong English language ability. This program allows families to temporarily enroll in our morning Kindergarten without committing to the full school year. We have found this short-term program to be beneficial to all students; improving social skills, interpersonal skills, and enhancing self-confidence, before they continue on to their next placement. The offer is dependent on the child’s English language level, and on available seats. The specific duration of the short-term enrollment will be agreed upon with the school in advance, depending on available seats.

1.7
Special Needs

Joy to the World does not have staff with specialized training nor the facilities to support children with special needs. Once accepted into the school, if a child is in significant need of special care that we are unable to provide, we may ask the parents to find a school more suited to the child’s needs.

1.8
Admission Procedure

Visit the schoolExplanation dayOpen schoolTrial/InterviewRead Admissions Guidelines and School HandbookSubmit application & Application Fee Screening by the schoolChild assessment (if necessary)Notification of results by email or telephonePayment of school feesDetails:We recommend that you first visit the school without your child so that you can fully absorb the school’s system and philosophy. After the first visit, you can schedule an appointment to visit with your child. A viewing for the morning classes typically lasts about 30 to 40 minutes. For the After School Classes and Saturday School, a free 1-hour trial is available. A paid trial lesson is available for the Mommy & Me Class.By reading the Admissions Guidelines and School Handbook in full you will understand all of our school policies.
Fill in the application in full and sign the application indicating that you understand and will comply with all school rules and policies. Be sure to submit the application fee along with your application.
The school will screen your application.
If the school feels it is necessary, we may ask to evaluate your child’s English language ability.
We will notify you of the results of your application.
After you are accepted into the school you will receive an invoice by email. Upon paying your first invoice, you will be considered a member of Joy to the World. Your child’s seat is secured only after tuition and all school fees are paid. Enrollment will only begin when tuition and all school fees have been paid. Any exceptions are at the school’s discretion.
*Please note, priority is given to siblings for enrollment in the school.

1.9
Application schedule

Joy to the World’s open application period for the 2021-2022 school year begins September 1, 2020 until March 1, 2021. Applying during this period increases your chance of enrolling your child at Joy to the World.Dates may be subject to change without prior notice.

1.10
Mid term application and enrollment

We accept applications and enrollments all throughout the school year, so long as space is available in the grade for which you wish to apply. We do our best to process applications as quickly as possible. Please allow for roughly one week for us to process your application for the morning programs. When applying outside of the application period (see above), please first check the availability of seats in the grade that you wish to apply for. If there are no seats available, you may be placed on the waiting list by proceeding with the application process, as listed above. Once your application has been approved, you will be informed and placed on the waiting list. You will be notified when a seat becomes available and mailed an invoice when you accept the seat. When enrolling midterm, it is possible that the school may ask you to wait before your child can fully participate in all activities - such as performances and excursions. Please understand that some events need to be practiced and prepared for before a child may participate.

1.11
Reservations

It is not possible to reserve a seat more than two months in advance when enrolling outside of the application period. You may enroll from September 1, 2020 till March 1,  2021 for the school year starting in September 2021. It is likely that a seat in Joy Tots and Pre-Kindergarten class may become available for enrollment or for a switch of days throughout the school year.

1.12
Waiting List

When applying more than one term ahead, please hand in your application as soon as it is ready. Successful applicants will be placed on the waiting list. You will be notified about seat availability two months before the start of the term for which you are applying.

1.13
Submitting Application

Applications can be accepted by mail, though we recommend you to bring it in person. When bringing in the application, please make an appointment, so that the school can schedule staff to go through the application to see if there are any adjustments needed. Although we do accept applications turned in via fax or email, a physical copy of the application is required at the earliest possibility

1.14
Academic Support

In the case that the school requests for your child to take academic support classes (Joy Private class or After Kindergarten class) in order to enroll (for K2 and K3 classes only), tuition for the recommended classes will be included with other fees and tuitions, and must be paid in full in order to enroll and/or follow class curriculum.

1.15
Unsuccessful Applications

It is possible your child may not be accepted into one of our programs. These decisions are at the school’s discretion and we will not divulge our decision-making process.

1.16
Parents Support

We like to think of Joy to the World as a big family, where every child feels safe and cared for. In order to strive for excellent education, parental support at home and cooperation with the school can make the difference. We want parents to be actively involved with their child’s education through open and frequent communication with the teachers and school administration. Parents will receive a login to our internal blog system (Joy Parents Portal) and are asked to check content regularly so that you are always up to date. Doing so avoids misunderstanding, confusion, and frustration. We are open to concerns, ideas, and suggestions and we will do our best to comply, as long as communication is conducted in a respectful manner. However, the school also expects parents to understand that the final decision lies with the school. Unfortunately, we will discontinue a child’s enrollment at Joy to the World if parents are not supportive of Joy to the World guidelines and policies. At Joy to the World, we hope you understand that by helping us you are helping your child. Teachers and administrative staff can be requested for a meeting at any time. If you have concerns to raise or questions to ask, please speak to us to schedule a meeting as soon as possible.

1.17
Tuition Rules

Please be mindful of this, and arrive on time. Drop off Times: You may drop off your child between these times. The doors will be closed and locked at other times for security reasons. This should only be in exceptional circumstances and should not become a habit. If you arrive after 10:00 am, the doors will be closed. You must go to the office and get a Late Slip. The office will then notify the teacher and arrange a time for the door to be re-opened. Please be advised that 2 times late will be recorded as 1 day of absence on your school record. If you are caught in an emergency, please notify the office as soon as possible to let us know what time you will be arriving at school.
