A Message of Support for Lahaina

August 17, 2023

Aloha,

As the owner of Joy to the World American International School and a native of Hawaii, my heart aches deeply for the recent devastation that has struck Lahaina Town on Maui. This tragedy hits close to home, and I want you to know that we stand together as one family during these trying times.

Hawaii holds a special place in the hearts of many of our Joy staff and families. The beauty of the islands and the warmth of their people have woven themselves into our lives. Witnessing the destruction that has befallen this paradise we hold dear is truly heart-wrenching.

Despite the physical distance that separates us, our connections run strong. The bonds we share among students, teachers, administrators, and families transcend mere geography. Our collective passion for Hawaii and its vibrant culture unites us in a way that words cannot fully express.

In the spirit of 'ohana (family), I implore you to consider lending your support to local organizations that are tirelessly working towards the recovery of Lahaina. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. Equally important is the power of awareness – by spreading the word about the fire's impact and the ongoing recovery efforts, we can rally more support and care for our beloved Lahaina community.

The resilience of the Hawaiian people has been proven time and again, and I am confident that they will rise above this tragedy with their unwavering strength.

Let us come together, hand in hand, to extend our aloha to Lahaina.

With heartfelt sincerity,
Jerry Pualoha Hanus
