Long “a” pattern

Dear Rockets’ Parents,

Last week, we started the class by playing another fun Comparing Game. They remembered the 4 rules to use in comparing 2 nouns really well! Everyone did a great job! 👏

We learned another set of sight words which is long “a” with -a-e words such as game, tame, shake, race, page and name. I also call it “Magic E” because this one little silent “e” changes the sound and even the meaning of the words. Like the words tap and tape for example. The rule to remember is that when the “e” sits at the end of the word, it is usually silent and this magical “e” makes the first vowel sound long just like how we say it’s alphabet name: ‘a-ay’ as in ape. The kids find the long “a” a little bit confusing so we will review it more this week.

We will have spelling test and sentences dictation this week.

Have a great day everyone!
